Next Steps for "Open Doors Open Minds"

Now that the first phase of our Open Doors Open Minds community consultation is complete, we are gearing up for our one day story seeking workshop on February 10. During the workshop our creative team will consult with 16 members of the community to gather more stories around the challenges faced by people with disabilities when accessing community groups and organisations. The participants will include people with disabilities, carers, and people from community groups and organisations. If you feel you have stories to contribute to this discussion and would like to participate in this workshop please contact us. Once the story seeking workshop is complete we will go into a 3 week rehearsal process with our cast, entirely consisting of people with disabilities, to develop an interactive Forum Theatre performance that will be performed 10 times in 5 locations across Canberra throughout March 2018. We will hold one daytime performance, and one after hours performance, in each location across Tuggeranong, Woden, City, Belconnen and Gungahlin. The intended audiences will include both people with disabilities, and volunteers, staff, or members of community groups and organisations in order to facilitate community discussion around improving accessibility. If you know anyone who would be interested in attending these performances please forward this article to them or suggest they contact us or sign up to our mailing list.
