Rebus wins the ACT Inclusion Chief Minister's Award for Excellence!
We at Rebus are unbelievably honoured to have received the ‘Excellence in Championing Human Rights’ Award, and the ‘Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence’ for our ‘Open Doors Open Minds’ project at the #ACTinclusion Awards last night. All the other finalists do such amazing work we really can’t believe it! We'd like to thank the National Disability Insurance Agency's Information Linkages, and Capacity Building program for funding this project, our board for guiding us through the last few years, and all our actors, associate artists and community participants that make what we do so special. Humble thanks to the ACT Inclusion Council for the awards, Icon Water and The Chief Minister Andrew Barr for sponsoring our categories, and ClubsACT for supporting the whole night. Congratulations to all the other winners and finalists!
Here's the spiel they gave about us...
EXCELLENCE IN CHAMPIONING HUMAN RIGHTS
WINNER REBUS THEATRE
Rebus Theatre is a not-for-profit organisation consisting of people with and without disability. Their Open Doors Open Minds project is an inclusion training program which was delivered to staff and volunteers of 52 community clubs and organisations, and employees of ten government departments in Canberra. Open Doors Open Minds involved creating an interactive performance using stories gathered from people with disability around the challenges they face in accessing meaningful participation in community activities. The program empowered 25 people with disability to facilitate wider public conversation about access and inclusion through sharing their stories and vision for the community. It celebrates people with disability as the experts in their own inclusion.
