Open Doors Open Minds - Book Now for your free inclusion training

A free professional development inclusion training program for staff and volunteers of community organisations, developed and presented by people with disabilities.

In partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency’s Information Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program, Rebus is offering this free professional development opportunity for staff and volunteers of community organisations to attend experiential inclusion training that’s also fun. Become a champion in your organisation by learning new ways to bridge the gap between policy and practice.

Open Doors Open Minds is a community education and training project designed to assist community organisations to become more accessible and inclusive to people with all kinds of disability, including mental ill-health.

In consultation with local community, Rebus is developing an interactive experiential training session using the model of Forum Theatre, with a cast entirely consisting of people with disabilities. This training will look at where things can go wrong when people with disabilities want to join, participate in or use the services of community organisations, and allow audiences to work together to find solutions. By ‘community organisations’ we mean everything from completely informal groups like book clubs, through to sporting organisations, arts and cultural organisations, faith groups, and large funded organisations like Belconnen Community Service or Communities@Work.

Rebus will offer 10 of these free training sessions delivered throughout March 2018 with one daytime session, and one after hours session, in 5 locations across Canberra including Tuggeranong, Woden, City, Belconnen and Gungahlin. The intended audiences will include both people with disabilities, and volunteers, staff, or members of community groups and organisations in order to facilitate community discussion around improving accessibility.
